Why is skin care essential to our wellbeing?

Skin is the largest organ on our body and one of the most complicated.
It contains several types of cells and structures, and throughout our life, will change, renew and adapt. It also constantly regenerates itself, approximately every 27 days.
Our skin serves as a barrier and armour between our internal organs and the sometimes hostile environment that surrounds us.
It is exposed to sun rays, UV, wind, temperature changes, pollution etc.
It regulates our body temperature, protects us from infections, produces vitamin D, and provides us with the sense of touch.
It is important to know that the skin on our face (specially the eyelids) is much more delicate than on the rest of our body, therefore it needs constant protection and looking after.
If our skin is not healthy, it may have a dull color, irregular spots, outburst, an uneven surface, and the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines will be much more visible.
A healthy diet, plenty of water, enough rest and avoiding unhealthy habits contribute to keep our skin look healthy, but it is crucial, that through the appropriate skin care products, we protect it from radiation and the harmful effects of oxidative stress (free-radicals), maintain its hydration levels and protect it from premature aging, so it can fulfill effectively its vital functions.
